Nothing says summer in the Lower Mainland like a nice, teeth-gritting traffic snarl caused by one of the ubiquitous road-construction projects that get going once the weather turns nice.
True to tradition, there are a plethora of projects scheduled for this summer that are sure to have you white-knuckling the wheel. This anticipated spike in blood pressure, of course, can be avoided by careful planning. Here is some of what to expect:
WEST VANCOUVER
Cypress Bridge
Project duration: April 17 to Sept. 30.
Info: Lane closures will be in effect, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily.
LANGLEY
Highway 1 in both directions.
Duration: June 10 to 15.
Info: Crews will be paving from the junction with 232nd Street to the junction with Highway 13 daily from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Lane closures will be in effect.
COQUITLAM
Highway 7 in both directions.
Duration: June 20 until further notice.
Major construction two kilometres west of junction with Brunette Avenue, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday. There will be lane closures on North Road, from Gatineau to Cottonwood Avenue.
DELTA
Highway 99 in both directions.
Duration: Until June 30.
Daily construction, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., to be done three kilometres south of the junction with Highway 10, with lane closures expected on Highway 99 between the 72nd overpass and 80th Street.
VANCOUVER
Sewer reconstruction: 4300- to 4600-block Prince Albert Street between East 27th and East 31st avenues daily from May 27 to June 10 between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Road construction: 200- to 300-block Clark Drive between Powell and Franklin streets, from June 8 to 9, between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Sewer reconstruction: 2800- to 3400-block West 12th between McDonald and Collingwood streets. Partial road closures will be in effect from June 7 to Aug. 19, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes.
Water-main upgrades: 900- to 1200-block Windermere Street, from May 24 until June 21. Work goes Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Street parking might be affected.
