Hello folks,
Just got to test ride the new BMW F650GS this past weekend. For those that don't know... it's not actually a 650 - it's a 798cc. Unlike the old bike this one's a twin. Horsepower is up from a meager 50 to a respectable 71.
Read the rest here (http://www.canadianmotorcyclerider.ca/articles.php?id=1094691471205763082)- lots of pictures and more impressions. Next weekend I should get a chance to ride the Ducati Hypermotard 1100S. Can't wait for that hooligan! :rockon

Yeah, I've heard good things about that bike. A friend's currently waiting for theirs to arrive. I'm looking forward to seeing it...

I was quite taken with the F650GS myself, we had a chance to do a ride impression (http://onewheeldrive.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=797&Itemid=1) a couple weeks back.

I rode it 2 weeks ago at BMW's demo day at Pac Yamaha.
I absolutely love that bike. I'm hoping it will be my next.

That's a nice write-up Neil. I got a chuckle out of the Frodo comment. Nice photography too. I'll have to send you a pm when I get a chance to find out more about the inner workings of that site.

Excellent write up Neil, as usual you have exceeded expectations.
I can hardly wait to pick up my new GS in June (now I really want it BAD!) (the darn thing is built and still in Germany). I was also pleased to see you got it off road and it was as fun there as I was hoping it was. I only had the pleasure of riding the GS on last year's test rides and it was still the single cylinder/5 speed. This model is so much more appealing with the extra gear & two cyl's.
Dan, thanks for the article as well. Glad you had fun. ;o)
I'm glad that you had such a great ride & you are now converted to the ways of BMW! :)

Hey Don, glad to hear that you're going to be back in the saddle sooner than later. Let's plan something for when I pick up my new toy! ;)

The last person who heard he was getting a 650GS wasn't that impressed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukAhlxl4hmM).

Yes, then directly to the internet for a taller windscreen and a sheep-skin for that seat :) I'm going to try pull one again to shoot some video, so we'll have to go for a GS outing.
Cheers

I think I'm going to wait before I do any mod's to the bike Neil, but I will take your comments to heart. (I have a lot of padding where the sheepskin would sit. ;) ) I would be up for a ride with another GS... let me know when you head out.

so the question is, will this bike fall under the 650cc or 800cc rate class? :)

Hey Nancy:
How come you never placed a gag order on me? Not that I said anything about it.
Anyway I must say BMW did a fine job of replicating the venerable KLR650 just for you aristocratic types out there. I will move off to the side of the road, bow my head and avert my eyes when you pass by. :bowdown
