I'm listening to the fox yesterday and the Jeff O'niel morning show isn't on WTF??? So I'm listening again today and it's those losers from the afternoon. WTF is going on???? I want the Jeff O'niel morning show back. Did they do some dumb shit to get them kicked off or something. They were talking about doing something but I have no idea what it was.

Probably has something to do with dressing up Scotty as a beaver. They send him down to Main & Hastings street to buy heroin. About 15 min into it he buys heroin on air for $10.
I listen to the show every morning and it's hilarious but that was just plain stupid. They must be getting bored.

Isn't that just another regular day on the east side?

Actually it only took him 7 minutes. All they did was show how easily something like this can be done and in plain view of the public and right in front of the eyes of our police force. What's ridiculous is that this has been going on for so long that everyone, including the cops, have become desensitized to this sort of thing. Props to them for trying to bring this issue to the forefront. (Even though they probably did it for ratings/shock value)
Anyways, minutes after Scotty made the buy, cops showed up and cuffed him. They checked the heroine and verified that it was real and uncuffed him. A little while later they were off the air, today Karen K said that they will be back on Tuesday. Guess they just got suspended.

They did it for shock value not for any sort of awareness. This issue gets enough attention with the one year extension on the safe injection site.

so taking drugs is illegal yet the government sets up safe injection site. how does that work?

It's a problem that needs to be dealt with and I think everyone is getting tired of it. Good to know they're coming back. That Kid guy on the beat pisses me off. I'm not sure how anyone like him is even allowed on the air he's an ignorant fuck with nothing but fluff to talk about. BORING. Did I mention his voice sucks and this bimbo girls he talks with sound like they dropped out of high school.

in that case all those that come up with/approved the safe injection site idea should use it themselves. i would gladly give my tax dollar for their treatment.

The good thing about them is that they suck so much that I came across the Jeff O'neil show, and can't leave.

well clogging up the courts with users and small time peddlers sure worked wonders didnt it? :rolleyes
giving people respect and dignity, lowering transmission of diseases... just a couple reasons to give the injection site a fair shot.
as for the morning show- well that was a fuck up!

That's why you have streamripper. Takes what you're listening to and saves it as an mp3. quality bit of software.
I don't see how pulling the Jeff O'Neil show does any good for the radio station. Now I'm just going to listen to Larry & Willy on 96.9FM -- the next best thing, though still pales in comparison -- until Jeff, Scotty and Charis are back. Good job Dunner, give away your ratings. :rolleyes
I couldn't see anyone who falls into that stations demographics being offended by this rather tame stunt considering how casually everyone there talks about other drugs, and the number of stoned callers (on the morning show, even). The only shocking part is that they were successful, but that's not their fault. I don't think they expected that to happen, but once you're put on the spot, you have to go through with it.

It's called the CRTC....watch dogs monitor the station and then complain to the station manager and the CRTC.

Safe injection sites have a primary mandate of curbing the spread of infectious disease. It works. The stats are there.
I used to work at a night club with it's back alley facing a popular hooker spot. All night I'd watch suburban dads pull up in minivans with baby seats and buy strung out hookers. Don't think this shit doesn't affect you.

re: the Beat morons... agreed. The girls there sound utterly retarded, and Kid Carson... I want to punch him in the face.
I really miss JC&S though. No other morning show even comes close. I wrote Dunner yesterday and he wrote back:

Dear Sean,
Thanks for your email. Due to the events of The Jeff O’Neil Show on June 4 2008 internal disciplinary action has been taken. The Jeff O'Neil Show will return Tuesday morning at 6am to 99.3 The Fox.

Hmm... Jeff Charis and Scotty are mysteriously not on the air this morning.
And I might be paranoid, but I've heard a distinct 'lack of branding' this morning and general lack of acknowledgement of what's going on.
So, in my paranoia, I plead their case. JC&S are the absolute best thing to happen to the fox in YEARS, and I never laughed so hard as with them. Any kind of 'extended hiatus' on their part with no explanation will really force the fans to make assumptions, and the only way WE can be heard is to boycott advertisers :) I understand that yesterday's antics were possibly a bit extreme for Canadian Radio, but I think they highlighted some problems with their usual grace and lack of taste that only serves to point reality out, and finally gave that elephant in the room a kick in the ass. I appreciate what they did... its horrifying really what the reality is.
Bottom line - bring 'em back, and in the meantime, give us a heads up on what's going on. I miss them already.
Concerned cfox listener,

WTF ? The best morning show gets pulled because of that ?
And by the way - whoever replaced Tod and Karen in the afternoon - the song you played yesterday afternoon just before 5 almost caused ear infection. You call this '80s shitty pop music rock ?

oh.my.god.
safe injection sites just started in attempt to deal with the mess that incarceration and criminalization of drug users has created!!!!!
your plan to lock them up will cost everyone shitloads... you want to give even MORE of your money to the government?!?!
anyway forcing someone to detox does not kick their addiction. you actually have to deal with the social issues that foster the addiction in the first place!

I guess in a lot of our eyes it hasn't helped. I think it would be great to give these people a shot, by having SRO housing for people IF they're clean.
A lot of drug users spend more money on drugs a year than the average person makes in Canada... they have income.

Yes they do have income, lot's of the change from my ash tray, my stereo and what ever else was in there

Forced intervention doesn't work. People won't change their life because someone tells you too. People change because they want to.
How many criminals get thrown into jail and come out to reoffend? Unless there's a program in place to deal with their problems, they will repeat the addiction cycle over again. Rock bottom is an illusion. There is no such thing. The only time people hit bottom is when they die. As crappy as a life can be it can always be worse. So don't say they just have to reach rock bottom. They need to reach a point in their life where they can see themselves for what they are and realize they need to change.
The safe injection sites are to offer the opportunity for help and give them a place to do their drugs in a clean environment so they don't spread Hepatitis and HIV from sharing needles. It's not a PC way of saying drugs are socially acceptable, it's a way of dealing with a problem that is not easily fixed. Until there is a solution, this is one way to minimize damage and offer the help when it's needed.
I volunteer in Whalley and I see it as well. Amazingly everyone has a story of how they got there. Life deals them a bad hand and they deal with whatever means they have available.
How many of you here have stepped off your pedestals and done more than look at the DTES or Whalley from your vehicles or from the news? How many of you have actually gone out of your way to talk to some of these people?
Next Saturday, I'll be at Nightshift in Whalley. Nightshift feeds dinner to the homeless 365 days a year, rain or shine without exception. We do it on the street so they don't have to go into a hall and we serve them.
If you truly believe you know what homeless and addicted people are like, come out and see first hand. I'm not saying they are all saints but none of them got to that place by choice. There are inherent dangers volunteering there but I have yet to come away from a night where something didn't make the night worthwhile.

Don't you have to be strung out on Heroin to enjoy the Fox anyway?

Life deals them a bad hand and they deal with whatever means they have available.
People don't realize how lucky they are to be in Canada. A bad hand (or what seems to be a bad hand here) is a royal flush in other countries.
I've been out on the streets with Angels in the Night and I didn't like what I saw. Many ungrateful people with no respect for life and no community.
I guess we have differing opinions... When I first moved here I had too many people say this line when we offered them food "no, cash or cigarettes". That jaded me.
Good for you for volunteering though, my God we're off topic here. :laughing
