I went to go buy a PS3. However where ever you go and talk to a sales person they either have a different opinion or dont know anything????
a. I bought a Wii for my parents, It is fun but not for me.
b. Last game system was a PS1. Favs are twisted metal, jet racer, kind of games. Had GTA, Grand torismo, Superbikes and such.
c. Didnt find RPG find thing games fun.
d. Liked shoot em up, races, chop chop. Just turn it on and start playing.
e. one contributing factor is the blue ray player.
Question of the day is which one should I go for? X box? or PS. I got stopped today by a sales girl saying that I should wait for the new PS3 comming next week??? Does this keep happening in this market? Is it like computers when they are old in a month?
Thanks

Just picked up PlayStation 3. Sat is right about getting it through EB Games. Best deal out there as long as you have 8 games to give away. Standard price right now is $399.
I haven't found a lot of First Person Shooters for it yet but I primarily got it for the Blueray playback. Cuz of the red ring of death issues (in other words the XBOX packing it in) I have stayed away from it regardless of how good Microsoft is about replacing the units. Shitty hardware that has to be dealt with by returning it constantly is no fun.
The new PS3? Probably what she is suggesting is a so-called revamped model. Sony keeps "revising" the PS3 by removing stuff from it to make them cheaper to manufacture often functionality is removed as well. Who knows though, this time the revision might be a good one.

I don't know anyone with a 'revised edition' 360 getting a red-ring... virtually unheard of unless you got one of the first-run machines...
this flowchart sums it up pretty good :p

The EB games is what got me interested...Add was $199...so i went in...I have no current enough games that they want, so full price. She said to wait since the current PS3 will not play PS2. The new one will and it has a larger hard drive. But $500.00 and comes with a game. he did mention the ring o death so having huge dissapointments with every microsoft product I will always try to get anything else...Thanks for your input....
Now which games rock???

xobox 360 does have a better selection of games
dead rising, gears of wars 1 and 2(soon)
ps3 well... they are still in their infancy...... IF u get an xbox 360, get it and mod it.. lol..
THats why i only play pc games.... although we have the wii and i'm thinking aout modding it ..heh
I bought a used 60 gig PS3 a while back. It works great and the 60 gig is the only one that will play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. Not only does it have free online play but it has built in wireless.

PS3 is the best logical choice for a game machine. The main reason is that it's the only Blu-ray DVD player out there that can easily have its software upgraded. It also happens to be the same price as a cheap Blu-ray player. So you're getting two machines in one.
40GB PS3 will not play older PS2 games. 80GB PS3 will play the older games, but it uses software emulation to do so. The 60GB PS3 is the best because it has a chipset built-in that will play older games. Too bad they don't make the 60GB anymore.
The other downside to the PS3 is that they don't have "dance dance revolution". That game is the reason why Team Troll is so smooth on the dance floor. Now you know.

No-one's mentioned the PS3 is almost silent. My buddy's 360 sounds like a jet engine 1/2 the time, and two jet engines the rest. No red ring of death, free online play, better controllers (1/3 of the weight it seems), blu-ray, built in wifi (no 100 dollar option required). Plus the hard disk is easily upgradable (laptop sata drives - 250 gig is like 100 bucks now).

if you want a good game system, get an xbox.
if you want a blu ray player that can play games, get a ps3.
xbox: better games, better controller, better online play.
getting a 360 was the best thing for me a few years ago. No red rings, still running strong. The truth is, the PS3 is a powerful machine if you can utilise it well... too bad developers haven't figured that out yet. The xbox360 is built like a PC so it's simple to develop on.
GTA4 runs on the 360 @ 720p,.. the PS3 can only pump out 640p.
Seriously it's no competition as to what is the better game machine right now is. From what you're telling me, MGS4 is not a game you will like. Gears of war, Call of Duty 4 are great shooters. You have the motogp games, GRID just came out. If you want Gran turismo then i guess you'll have to go Sony. I actually might be getting a PS3 soon because of the MGS4 bundle, but i'm not looking to play any games on it really. It's just a good deal for a blu-ray player. If a game came out on both systems i'd get the 360 version every time.
Don't even get me started on console vs PC gaming. PC gaming has its place for sure... MMORPG's, RTS, First person shooter for the serious gamers, but the reality is that the startup cost to game on a PC is not worth it. $1000-$1500 for a good PC to play games. $350-400 for a Xbox360 or PS3. Throw in a disc and play, no installation time, no compatibility issues, no drivers/patches/updates to track down to play. Console gaming is simple plug and play and FAST.

Funny how mine runs at 720p or 1080i ..... :rtfm

Don't forget 70 bucks a game, vs free via bittorrent on the pc :)

the controller has no weight because there is no rumble in it. the dual shock 3 will be heavy. Personally, i find the ps3 controller design dated. It's good for some games but the analog sticks are not in good positions to use.
blu ray, wifi, definite pluses of PS3. HD space is not needed for games, but more for entertainment (storing movies, music etc)
online play is moot because there are WAY more players on xbox live. The 12 month xbox live card is $50 now. $50 for one year is not much of a cost (actually 13 months).
yes, some xboxs are loud as fuck.. mine is like that but some newer ones are not. It's not too bad if it's near your tv (as long as it's not like, on your desk right next to your monitor like i used to have it)

it's really running at 640p scaled up.

it's not a big deal but one of the examples of how developers aren't able to use the ps3 as well as the 360 right now.
they are making it harder to pirate some games on the pc now. yes it's true you can get them off BT, but really, you do have to have a decent pc first. plus if you have an HDTV, it's SO much better to be playing games on that than a computer monitor.

I find the sticks are way nicer to use than the 360's. The 360 isn't a bad controller, but i find the PS3's more friendly. Sure it's an older design, but it works so why change it :)

yeah it's what you're used to, but since just about all games use analog sticks now, it's nice to have the left stick right underneath the natural placement of your thumb.

Have 360, Have Wii, Work on a PS3 all day.
They all have advantages etc... 360 had a larger selection of games, PS3 has Blu Ray and Metal Gear Solid but otherwise very lacking. Wii is fun but usually only with people around which is why I got it modded.
If it were my money and you wanted to start getting Bluray movies I'd get a PS3, if you want to play online with friends get a 360 (The PS3 online is free cause it sucks)
PS3 is starting to come around, too bad their Dev kits are stupid to work with.
The PC games are free point is moot, as the only games worth playing on PC are online ones, and 99% of the time you can't unless you buy the game.

are you a casual gamer or one who wants to get into the latest and greatest games?
PS3 will be the go to if you want an entertainment unit. The one that the girl was talking about is probably the metal gear solid 4 bundle. Comes with an 80GB PS3 (which has backwards compatibility of PS2 games through software emulation - the 40GB ones do not have this), Dual shock 3 controller (old ones had the regular six axis, no rumble), and Metal Gear Solid 4.. the cost is $499.

Yep, she is definitely talking about the MGS4 bundle. I'm a big fan of Metal Gear games and Final Fantasy games, Silent Hill, Gran Turismo, etc... Basically, the majority of the games that are exclusive to Sony. That's the main reason why I chose the PS3. Once in a while I'll buy some RPG/Action games if they have high ratings. I'm very happy with the PS3 overall. I recently finished Ninja Gaiden Sigma and I'm kinda disappointed that Ninja Gaiden 2 isn't coming out for PS3.
My friend on the other hand, likes playing online games on his Xbox. He also says that the controller is a lot better than the PS3. He has a PS3 he never touches. He has gone through about 3 360's due to RROD.
Like what most people have said, It all comes down to what game titles you like and the type of gaming you do, which you already mentioned. Seems to me, the Xbox is the better choice for you at the moment because it has a lot more selection of games, especially ones that you just turn on to play.

I detest online game play, so xbox holds no interest for me.
I'm a pretty big fan of Sony products in general, and I've owned a PS3 since Christmas, and have loved every minute of it.
It all depends on what games you like to play. I enjoy third-person, action-adventure games, like Uncharted and Assassin's Creed. I really liked Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, and am salivating with anticipation for MGS4.

It's a bit closer now, but for a long time consoles couldn't do as much as what a good PC could. And FPS games just SUCK using two thumbsticks. If thats what you're into, get a PC. Takes 10 times as long to aim properly with thumbsticks compared to a mouse, and it's never as accurate. One of the reasons I didn't find playing Halo3 on the xbox that interesting. It was just clumsy like a blaster, not as refined as a lightsaber ...

why do they call it a 360?

anyways, using a dinky analog to aim is tough at first, but with a bit of practice someone can get really good with it.

I would shy away from the pricier 80 gig model, which is what I own, because it's really easy (as I've learned now) to buy another larger memory drive and swap it out.
PS3s can fit a 2.5 inch Sata drive, and I believe the biggest is 320Gs or something. If I had to do it again, I'd save the $100 and buy a 40G, then use that money towards another higher capacity drive.

if you have a substantial library of PS2 games (which you may want to throw in for 5 minutes every now and then :) ) you might want the 80GB one. (not to mention it also comes with more USB ports and the silly flash card reader.
I don't think Mr. Sushi has PS2 games but just saying.

Ya, I'm not into shooters on a console at all. If I'm going to play a game like Call of Duty 4 I'd much rather play it on PC. For me consoles are all about the sports games anyway most of the other games don't interest me at all with a few exceptions.
