speelling and grammer not included
-Summer 07- G/f buys bike learns to ride(On the street)
-Fall -07-G/f trades bike in on a 748
-Fall-07- we bs talk about doing a long ride in the summer.
-Feb-08 Get a call from the g/f she had to book her time off now. She picked 2 random weeks in the begining of June. I had too aswell so we can go for are long ride.
-Early spring- Large map of Usa highlight the places we want to see, and the routes we want to take to get there
- Week before departure date, get reminder from g/f we are leaving in a week. At this point we have not done any preplaning. I got into racing and spent all my savings and maxed out my creadit card. missing payments.ect.
(Racing is more addictive then drungs)
I get insurance on my 998 That I can't afford So I put it on the payment plan thus drains what money I have left. My plan was to cancell insurance as soon as we got back.
So in the week before we hit up can tire, and the local bike shop in abby. we get cargo nets and soft saddles bags. We also get helmut communication we order crusie control and throttle rockers
Night before departure day, the crusie control get in, and dosn't fit eather bike. Throttle rockers fit.

I trade with guy at work so I can get out early. This plan works out awsome when the boss finds me in the yard working, tells me he's not paying me that much to work in the yard. Sounds like I get to leave early, Phone the g/f tell her the good news, We can leave earler then expected.
I get home wheel the bike from my living room and pack her all up. Call the g/f to find out how long she will be, and I begin the waiting game. g/f finally gets to my house. Me and the roommate help retie her saddle bags and cargo net (mistake 1) She made it to my house they should have been good)
Head to the aldergrove boarder crossing, the wait is not to bad, get across the line pull into the parking lot figure we should put on the helmet com. devices. (good thinking)
We get all the cords all wired up and the g/f ask me for her 2 way radio(helmets work with 2 way radios) this shortly leads to mistake #2 I should have packed her radio on my bike silly me. No big deal we will stop at wal-mart get some more and be on are way. We get some more in bellingam
And we are off
Traffic on the I-5 is looking good. The forcast is for 80% chance of rain in seatlle, But have stayed dry so far. We are ripping farly good no cops or traffic when suddenly the g/f comes flying up beside me pointing to the back of her bike, and what do you know there is nothing there. Somthing catches my eye behind her bike and what do you know the cargo net got cought on her exhaust link thing and she is currently dragging her stuff down the intersate at 150km/h.
I franticly tell her to pull over with my random jesters (helmet com. dont work over 100 km/h) We stop and start looking at her bags they have some road rash and some holes in the bags. when the g/f notices her travell bag is right in the middle of one of the holes. She opens it up, and looks inside most things have fallen out tooth brush hair clips, The ring her grand parents bought her. needs so say we walked up and down the I-5 tell it got to be late dusk. I for some reason grabbed some duct tape before we left. I so found myself putting duct tape on a duc.

well after our slight miss happinings with the saddles bags we where more then discouraged about the trip. I told the g/f we could go back home get the cage and still have fun, But she would have none of that, and we contued on down the I-5 checking are load for each other while we road. We road for a couple hours tell we go to sea tac and stop there for the night. We tought we would have made portland that night.
The next day we got a late start did get going tell after 12:00. we headed down the 5 tell we got to Salem and took the 22 towards Bend later going along the 126 the road was strait and boaring tell we went into the mountians. Then it got cold the sun was out but burrr There was still lots of snow still in the sides of the road. We road tell we got to sisters and stoped for hot coco and chicken a mcdumpsters. We ran into some dirt bikers there that there was a nice place to stay in La pine. We road on down the 97 towards la pine and out of the mountians, It was still cold but not freezing.
We didn't find the place we got told about. But we did find a nice place with 70's shagg carpit.
The next day we road down to the 31 and the 31 to the 395. The 395 had some amazing views and roads the we nicely twisted, inparts and very long straits in other parts
This might have been on the 31 all though it looks like the desert it was still cool at this point. But getting warmer
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/beerbaron69/P6080035.jpg
later that day we made it into reno and then it finaly started getting warm towards reno. We did stay long in reno, and went down the road to Carson city and found the most getto motel ever, the lady at the front desk had no teeth as it look like they had all rotted off.
The next day we went down the 395 and had a blast the road was fun and the veiws awsome.

We traveled down the 395 and turned off 1 valley before death vally. It looked at bit far on the map between gas stations in death vally. We turned of at Big pine but we only road 30km so I didn't think we need to top up before head over towads the 95. The road was just awsome soon as we turned onto it. the first sign I saw was sharp turns next 16 miles. It was a bit to tight but still fun for the most part it was 10 mph corners and steep. We had to stop to let the bikes cool down, as we could not ride that fast the get the bikes to cool off.

Very nice trip and routes. How are your backs on these bikes? They never struck me as touring bikes for long journeys.

my back was ok for the most part I found my right shoulder got the worst, as I could not let go a move it around much. But we didn't ride more the 8-10 hours in a single day. I did notice my butt got sore a lot faster if I was sweating down there

Wow. The things you remember on a trip like this, the things you learn! I am very happy to see touring Ducs. My buddy had a 748S we did a few long trips on. With a soft enuff tank bag, you can rest your arms, but the neck is another issue. If you wanna keep touring with the Ducs, bar risers or Heli bars are a good upgrade.
Not my route of choice where you were going, but it all depends on where you wanna go and how much time you have. Thanks for posting!

The next morning we checked out the hoover dam man that thing is big and the new freeway they are putting over it is even bigger. but on the way back from the dam it was so hot I was just about passing out, I stoped at lots of gas stations to cool off. It was 41 in the shade at about noon and 33 at one in the morning

Anyways vagas was too hot for me, so the next day we left bright and early to get aross the desert before the heat got blistering. We took the 15 west and then a bunch more tell we got to santa barbra. There where so meny lanes going in every direction. I didn't have a clue where I was going needless to say we only went the wrong way once on are way to San Bar and it was a slight 15 min deture.
We hit some traffic on the way,we road on shoulder tell the bikes got hot. we stoped beside a rig to cool off and by the time we did, traffic started moving again.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/beerbaron69/P6110205.jpg
about a 30min after this we where riding along and we came across a little drit devil twister that was maybe 50ft high no big deal I thought but slowed down too about the speed limit anyways,as it was in the middle of the road now and road into it, well it felt like i was in a sandblaster on my arm as i had my jacket sleeves rolled up and it tossed me from the slow line shoulder side into the fast lane, then it was over and we road on.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/beerbaron69/P6120254.jpg
lane spliting down there is awsome and works well most bikes just ride between the Hov lanes and normal lanes as the hov lanes can't cut across.

Very nice. That's a decent amount of miles you're putting on.
I wish we could legally lane split here. It's just not socially acceptable yet. That's why we have to do it more. Stupid Vancouver...

I think in total the Red bike went 5800km and the yellow was just a little shy of that. The total cost of this trip is yet to be know. It could have been done cheaper if we camped and ect. But we where on vacation and said F@ck it.
