View Full Version : Phantom hit and run- Crash!

I was riding southbound on No.5 road (just passed Blundell) in the right lane, when a car cut me off, and braked right in front of me. I wasn't going too fast, but I guess the distance was just too short. I grabbed my front brake too hard, and my front wheel locked. I low sided on my left side, and slid a few meters (my bike slid a lot more).

The guy that cut me off just took off! I have a witness, and a police report, but unfortunatly no plate.

Unfortuantly, I have no collision as well (bike isn't worth enough).

I read earlier posts about a "phantom hit and run" fund? Would I be considered covered?

...aside from my bike though, I am ok. Aside from a few scrapes on my knees, my Ballistic Jacket and full face helmet saved me from getting too scuffed up.

...Ditto, and don't ride in Richmond unless you absolutely have to. I avoid that place like the plague.

haha..unfortunatly, I LIVE in Richmond.

I've booked an appointment with ICBC tommorow morning. They said that the adjusters will have a look at it to access the damage. My bike is still rideable (with broken fairings, scuffed exhaust, and broken mirrors, turn signals). Any pointers?

Sorry to say it but it's so true. I'm Asian and proud of it, but am ashamed at the way so many (not all, but way too many) asian morons are driving around in Richmond. Of course, they're not all asian, but most are. I'm not even gonna pick on age. For some, "N"ewbie drivers, like those 16-19 who think their lil riced up jap car makes them like the Tofu Delivery dude in Initial-D... think again boy... and those older ones who for some reason still have a license when all they should be driving is that little electric wheelchair down the hall in the old folks home....

One type is too fast, in speed and reaction, and one type is too slow... put them together and you've got a mixture like water and oil... They can't be put together in a same place or accidents will happen...

And for all those young ones whom I've tried tappin on the window to yell at.... ermm.. I mean to talk to nicely, and have driven away scared shitless... I've got your plate #. Don't let me see you again.

Sorry for the rant

As for the bike, if it's still rideable, and only minor damage... just fix what's needed and bring'er down to the track~ time to learn those ART techniques~~ and save your ass some more~

Even if you didn't get the WHOLE plate, ICBC can help you. I'm sure you remember the make model and colour of the vehicle, if you even have PART of the plate number ICBC can do a search and they will contact drivers that filter out of the matches.

For example, if it was me who cut you off, and you got the first 2 digits of my licence "56", ICBC would do a search for red Nissan pickups with licences that start with 56, they then throw out the people who live too far away, like Prince George, and then they contact them.

Try to remember bud, it can save you big time $$$

I think if you didn't actually colide with the car it's your fault. Even if you had to go down to avoid a colision. I might be wrong though but ICBC is nit picky with the blame factors and you did lock up the front brake. Good luck hope not to much damage.

Hit and runs considers when there is a contact.
At that point you are covered even under basic I belive.
Your situation sucks as you where the one at fault locking the tire.
You might have to go street fighter style.

Actually, it's not Henry who is at fault. This is considered a "phantom hit and run"....phantom = no contact.

the other driver caused the accident and if henry had his plate, the driver would be responsible. however, unfortunately in this case, henry did not get his license plate --> he is not held liable but the costs to repair would come out of his insurance policy without his premium raised.
