So I am looking at a couple of options for seat covers for some longer rides I am planning this season. First of all the good old sheepskin, supposed to keep your butt cool and comfy, or so I hear.
While at the bike show I saw this product called a "Cross Gel" seat. Check it out https://crossgel.ca/index.php Does anyone have one of these? Opinions?

That cross gel pad looks pretty thick ... it probably changes your riding position too much. ($165 !! )
The cheap guy solution for sheepskin : go to Walmart and buy a $8 bathmat - then cut it to fit !

I use a sheepskin that I got from www.alaskaleather.com
It really does help keep the monkey butt to a minimum at a far cheaper cost. Mine is black and sheared a bit so it does not look to shaggy.
Another alternative is at Ikea they have white sheepskins (long hair)

Another cheap solution, go to IKEA and buy a small sheepskin. They aren't expensive at all, and can be cut to fit your bike.

Sheepskins are ok, they let things breathe a little more, which a gel pad
won't. Gel pads also don't always give you support where you need it.
If you're doing serious riding, I'd look at getting a custom fit seat done.

165 bucks for that foam rubber pad! I dont think so. You could get an upholsterer to make one cheaper. I had a motorcycle seat re-covered with new foam for 60 bucks several years ago.

Thanks for the posts guys. I already have a Corbin and it made a huge difference. I know the $170 is real steep for that gel seat. I think I will try and check out Ikea (shudder, shudder) for that sheepskin and try it out.

I bought that Butt Buffer one. The guy in TO wouldn't just sell me the gelled medical grade pad to mold into the seat. I had to buy the cover with straps to go over the seat. What I like about the cover is it gives you option on the seat ; at times you can ride with or without the pad. ( I use this for an Adventure bike where you have space to carry the pad ). Its like sitting on firm Jello. Strapping a pad on a sport bike can be scary when it shifts. This year I will mold the pad into the seat with a 3/8" thick foam cover over it. I looked at that Air Hawk that is not cheap. That pad is over 1" thick and looks like it would work well on a bike that you were not aggressive on ie. Iron Butting. The Air Hawk would substantially raise your CG. Figure out how you would like your seat customized and talk to a local upolsterer to make adjustments at a resonable price. No $400 + for an american seat. On my ZX9
my legs are a little cramped for my big frame. If I went 1/2" + in the padding it would save me a lot of money over a $400 + set of brackets.
if ur ever caught in the rain with a sheepskin cover....your f**ked. soaked ass on the ride home. enjoy suckers!
