View Full Version : Memorial Support?

In memory of Nathan Mayr who died on his motorcycle on May 31, 2005 in White Rock, some friends have come up with an idea for a memorial. Near his crash sight is a tower (water tower?) and we thought it would be really nice to put the L.O.O.K logo on the tower in his memory. If this proposal doesn't go through we will propose to have the tower painted blue (like all of Nathan's bikes). For this to happen however, I need to know a couple of things:
1) Is the LOOK logo (the one you see on bumper stickers everywhere) a good one to use? Or does anyone thing there is a better one?
2) Which organization is it that puts out the LOOK stickers?
3) Does anyone know who owns the tower in White Rock?
4) Is this something the bike community would support both both personally and financially? I will be looking into some fundraising stuff if this goes through. I have someone willing to put it together but I need to provide him with some answers to these questions.
Thanks everyone for your support and kind words. Ride Safe!

I think this is a great idea and would support it.
I expect that the White Rock water utility owns the tower.
The thing is an eyesore the way it is now so a coat of paint would be great.
I like the way you propose to commemerate your friend and do something for safety at the same time.
Good for you!

Personally I don't like road side memorials at all. I think they don't allow people to move on after something tragic happens. If you want a memorial I would suggest buying a bench somewhere with a plaque on it or creating a bursary for a school in his name to reward a student with some of his qualities.

I think it's a good idea and would definitely support it.
I see Flow's point as well, but I don't think this is just a roadside memorial and I personally think it could do a lot of good.

I think the painting the look logo is a great idea... heck, sounds like a great idea for some midnight missions. Too bad I can't spraypaint worth a damn. Any outraged motorcyclist taggers out there?
BTW, BCCOM puts out those stickers.

Not a bad idea. I saw a bus with one of those ads on the rear of it yesterday. Strange thing was that it said it was sponsored by the BCMSA or something like that. It wasn't BCCOM although I'm sure they'd have the stickers and the info.

This isn't quite the same as a roadside memorial. It wouldn't have Nathan's name or anything like that on it. It is the ugly water tower thing that is near his crash site. I would like to think it would promote awareness of motorcyclists on the streets.

Has anyone figured out who puts out this logo? I can't seem to find it on the internet with google.
If anyone knows that would be awesome.
Thanks, Hannah

I passed a bus today and the ad was on it. It was sponsored by the B.C. Motorcycle Safety Association. Couldn't find a phone number but everything sorta leads to Julia at the Flying Swan. Suggest you get in touch with her. Her email and a published phone # are in your PM.
Good luck!

I will forward this to my friend who is organizing it all. I will be in touch with this website some more when things get going on this project.
