Hi all, shit happens,...bike got nailed by a delivery van (it was parked)...typical fairing damage, busted pegs, and would you believe a bent triple clamp. Estimated $2k by ICBC to fix.

Can anyone recommend which of the two shops does good alignment and paint work and which mechanic I should be requesting?

Much appreciated.

I have a similar question. Someone tried to steal my bike the other night and in the process chipped and scratched the gas tank and now needs to be painted. Can anyone recommend someone that does good paint. The local motorcyle dealerships I am sure do not do paint, they will send it out to whomever they use. The trick I think is too find your own paint expert that you trust. Any suggestions?
Thanks

borderline or brada for paint and bodywork repair. both are sponsors of the site.

some will also recommend d&b customs.

for repair, 5th gear, or imperial do good work. some of the dealers are ok too.

Honda Centre rocks. They fixed up my bike after I crashed a couple years ago. Their painter rebuilt some of the plastic on my fairings so I didn't have to buy new fairings. Very happy with their service in general, and Alex is a good guy to deal with - honest and fair.

I've found Carter generally charges more than anyone else for the same product/service. YMMV.

But a guy who also does great paint work & repairs is 5th Gear - he's a member here and many bcsb members are very happy with his work:

edit: oh yah, Borderline also. Great paint, and numerous people have posted their pics here after he's painted their bikes. Nice work.

James the service manager at Carter Granville Island is awesome. So are Rosalie and Lori in accessories.

If ICBC is paying for it I would just take it to the dealer.

+1 - Carter GI fixed my bike through a much more expensive ICBC claim and did a great job last year.

If ICBC is paying, I wouldn't hesitate to take the bike there. Instead of paint, they will probably replace the plastic if it is an ICBC claim.

I have only heard good things about Honda Centre too!

James is now the sales manager. It was a great service dept, because James knew so much about bikes. It seems now that the service manager is good at managing, but I don't know if all those happy satisfied customer letters will still be flowing in. It no longer feels like they are trying really really hard for you, I'm sure the service is still good, but James made it great.

Just stay far away from Simons at 7th & main. Charged me big bucks to fix an electrical problem that was their responsibility. Also fucked up my carbs and made me pay for that too.

We do ICBC claims and use Borderline as are painter. We can get ICBC to pay out for a custom paint job no problem at all. I can usually get a bunch of nice aftermarket stuff thrown in if the price is right.

I'd stay clear of Carter Granville. My buddy took his VFR in to get serviced and they dropped his bike!! That did about $2K worth of damage. They ended up fixing it but still made him pay for the service. Also, that was his only form of transportation and they wouldn't lend him a vehicle to use while they put him out for an extra week. Sounds like poor customer service to me!

I'd just like to offer the following bit of advice: just because people are being friendly and smiling to your face doesn't mean they're not ripping you off behind your back. Some people confuse 'good customer service' with people being nice to you while they charge you exhorbitant prices.

Note: the above bit of advice was a general commentary on sales in general and not related to any specific dealer or even industry.

Totally agree. The markup on those things are insanely crazy (sometimes even 10x from what they get it for). No shit they are all giggly when they come to you. Why wouldn't they be happy?
