6000KM 14 days
Originally I had plans to ride down in a group, but it fell through. I had asked other groups. Their plans didn't fit my needs. So what the Hey do it Solo.
Packed up the bike with all the necessary gear to camp, since I'd be in the forested areas by choice.
I had gone down in 05 to the Gp and enjoyed going through the Cascades in Oregon.
The good stuff started after Portland. Estacada 224, Detriot 46, 22, 126, Aufderheide 19. Cranked of 850 Km the first day.
Going down 58 to the Truck Hwy 97 and on to Kalamath Falls is very boring.
I had heard and researched a supposedly paved route from Oakridge to Steamboat, which would get you on the west side of Crater lake.
Chatted with a gal at the ranger station and she proposed a route for me. Although 15 miles of it would be gravel.
Here's the route Oakridge to Steamboat

Here's a few pics from the area. I was very pleased when I finally made my way through the gravel road. Lots of Y's. Should have brought an Adventure Bike.

We just did the 128, north of Crater Lake from 97 to the I-5 and it was pretty spectacular. The closer to the I-5 you get, the better the road conditions. The scenery is amazing.
HWY97 is the straightest road ever conceived by man.

I headed west on Hwy 70 to Oroville then east Hwy 162 to Quincy. Hwy 70 is rated as a DH 3 and runs along the river along the valley floor. Hwy 162 is a DH 7 NorCal book and runs up into the summit. Camped at Bucks Lake. I ran into some construction on 162 and they had the road torn up for a mile. The red clay got all into the rads and was a bitch to clean out. Didn't take alot of pics in the area .

Through Lake Tahoe on the 89. Took a run up and back on Monitor Pass to the 395 and back to the 89 DH1. Back running east to west. Hwy 88 DH4 down 49 to Hwy 108 Sonora Pass DH8.

Amazing images of the race. You can "feel" the speed and the energy of them moving around the track. Well done scooter!

You can only look so good out there. White socks with the dust wouldn't work. I went to Cannery Row with my dirt bike gear. Never heard the end of it. They were calling me Turquoise. One dude ask me if I was part of the stunt show.

Doesn't it make you feel like you're better than everyone that only rides up here? I know I do! ;)
But seriously... we need to get a "California Road addicts anonymous" group together to share our stories. lol

Looking forward to your trip report. Could you post up any good obscure roads you went on. Good to hear everyone's home safely. My bike ran extremly well. I was talking to her on the trip. The only mishap I had was a air pump that didn't work. Picked one up in the next town. Good thing I was not caught off guard with it.
More pictures of the umbrella girls pls.

After the races we head up Sky Line blvd across the Gold Gate Bridge. head North on the 101. I see a few people enjoy the Wild River area 36, 3, 299, 96.
I arrived in Mad River and talked to a group of riders about the route from Hwy 3 to the 96 Callahan, Cecilville. They varified that the road was paved all the way through to 96.
My plan was to get up to Happy Camp and head over into OR through O'Brien.
Head up the 199 and take in the Oregon Caves. The road to Oregon Caves Hwy 46 was just crazy. Lots of switch backs and 15 to 20 mph turns.
The whole area is great riding especially DH2 Cecilville.

I wanted to get back into the OR Cascades. Headed up the I-5 and found a real treat. 216 exit off the I-5 to Hwy 228 to Sweet Home. The road is called Quartzville creek Scenic Byway. Twist aloing the river. Highly recomended. My destination was Detriot then head up Hwy 46 and over to Mnt Hood up across the Gorge and through Mnt Saint Hellens. There is also a sweet road I found before that conects Hwy 46 to Hwy 26 Mnt Hood. A littler harder to find but you do not have to go back up through Estacada and on to I-84 to get to the Columbia River Gorge.

Next time I may do the west side of the Seirra Nevadas and go from the great road Hwy 49 and do the east to west loops.
I had purchased a suite Turn 4 Flag Room at Laguna Seca, but felt it was a waste. I just couldn't eat and drink $375 US. Didn't even sit in my Grand Stand Seat. I have met a great group that will take care of you in the Chaperal RV area. They catered my food and booze and camped for $60. I'd just buy a general admission ticket next time.
I had gone on some of the top NorCal Destination Hwys routes. Next time I will do the routes with the 30 out of 30 twisties.
The trips each year just get better and better.

I just found an excellent resource for top California roads.
Its Pasninits web page forum. You get Pashnit.com without actually paying for it. Lots of maps and pics.
