Ok I just got the news, so it may sound like i'm whining a little bit.

But I just got the reg / rec done on my 1999 Honda VFR. It died fast.

The new place I tried, cost me $505....including an oil change (regular oil). :hangman

I had a '03 cbr last year, and had the reg/rec replaced as well (I gotta stop buying Honda's) and I swear it only cost around $340.

So over $100 more...

I know the parts are priced differently but does that sound about right for that work?

Feels like I'm getting pwn'd....

Maybe try using a different manufacturers r/r? I've read of people putting R1 r/rs on their VFR when i was looking around for the heatsink/fan mod.

Haha,

Regulator Rectifier....charging system.

Battery doesn't get charged...

But the funny thing, I swear batteries charge up on their own...overnight would charge it enough to get to work.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did my own reg/rec on my old honda cost me 150 bucks.
Just had to take off 1 piece of fairing, unplug, unscrew, screw, plug back in, done.

Maybe it is hard to get to on your model, requiring a lot of time? I wouldn't go back.

Ya, word to that I guess. Should have learned to do it on my own. Rather waste a day then spend an extra few hundred bux.

spend $50 on a manual ,best money you wil ever spend in your life.

A reg/rec replacement is just getting at it and replacing it.Even if you had to take the entire bike apart its not worth 3 bills to not do it yourself

A little late for you, but a good source for this info would have been:

www.vfrdiscussion.com

The R/R isn't hard to replace.

Good aftermarket regs are only $89 better than Honda's OEM. Labour 1 hr at the most

My R/R was $120 and I replaced it on my Fireblade in about 13 minutes. That included taking a five minute break to have a Coke and a smile. :D

If you do a search on this site you'll find a link to online manuals, aside from that go see Bill at 5th gear and he'll fix you up.
