So, I arranged to have a buyer come over for my Bandit tonight. It sounded like they were quite interested and I was pretty confident we were going to have a deal made. I get off work at 2, head home, eat and then go to do the usual polish, lube and general cleaning of the bike before they get there. I pop the disc lock off and go to stick the key in and...WTF! Somebody has punched the damn ignition!

I hate bike thieves. I further hate bike thieves that are such idiots that they can't actually steal the bike, just mangle it.

If you arranged a meet with the potential buyer, don't tell them it's fuxored yet, see if they show up. If they don't show, (and you gave your address and time you'd be off work).... you now have a suspect. Grab the nearest torch, pitchfork, and video camera, and off you go!

Good call.

I would meet them at a neutral site with a friend

yup, same thing happened to a tenant of mine. Broke of the entire ignition. Now he has to start it with a wrench. The only thing stopping the fukkers from riding off was the disc lock. You'd think that they'd see the reminder coil next to the steering bar before inflicting pointless damage.

I'm not exactly worried about that. The buyer was phoning me from their work and left more than enough detail for me to track them down. I sorta know more than the average duck about tracking people down, as I used to be the province of BC's in-house people on that very subject. And my wife does the same kind of work at the federal level.

Oh yeah, I should also add that I'm not overly worried about it as the guy did call. I sort of looked back at it and the guy is a member here and I shouldn't imply that he'd be pulling crap.

they are not stupid. they wreck your ignition first as they know you won't be able to ride it. then they come back when you're at work and steal your bike. it happened to ppl before. so you better get your guard up pronto.
