I don't know anything about guitar pedals, but my brother is looking for a distortion pedal for Christmas, is that what this one does? Little explaination . . .?

Yup its a distortion pedal. Probably one of THE best distortion pedals. Its kinda one of those things that everyone should have in thier pedal collection.

It has a great tone range.
