Well I fooled the big nurse and escaped again… Even met some apprentice geezers at the border, but they have a ways to go yet to achieve true geezerdom.. Glad your ride went well

Heading to eastern Oregon for a few days.

Couple pics of “the old road” around Blewett summit on hwy 97 in WA. not for the faint of heart.

These are a local squid road between Ellensburg and Yakima, Canyon Road.

Being a Saturday there was a heavy law enforcement presence…. I should have known better to being Saturday and all….
So I come around a corner and radar detector starts blasting, cloud of dust from the far side of the road, nice blue and red light show, and ….a friendly wave with a gesture to slow down…. Nothing more than that though… Thank you.

I’m sure if I’d been on a “crotch rocket” I’d have had some extra paper to bring along, but the stealthyness of the big ugly Vstrom with bags, luggage and old guy on board does it again..

Nice Don. I'm thinking about going on a Stateside trip this coming week. Might go through here.

Rode that 821 (Ellensburg to Yakima) earlier in Sept and was really impressed. Early morning sun lighting up the canyon, big smooth fast sweepers... thought it deserved DH status rather than lowly 'TE'.

About halfway through, rounded a corner to see a slow-moving car flashing its lights at me. Oh, look: a couple of big dogs gambolling across the road on the shoulder and in my lane. Here it's a woman 'walking' her dogs on the highway, in her car. Clever. As I rode by at 30kph she gave me a nice dirty look. So I guess motorcycles have bothered her walkies before.

Good old Yakima Canyon road...

Having just done that road this summer I'm insanely jealous of you Don! :)

Have a good time riding, and don't go to Warm Springs, Or.... if you must, don't stop there. ;)

have a great trip. It was a shame we all had to be back in one day...A day will come when we Pre"geezers" come of age and free of certain responsibilties to enjoy the 3-4 day roadtrips.

Don, looking good.

I missed the old road on the pass down (another old geezer didn't want to do it) and on the way back I just blitzed past the sign.

I'll be back there though to enjoy it.

I also saw a LEO on the Canyon but I was being good (shocking!).

Looks like you had a goood time. I'll post a canyon shot as well if you don't mind, it's a beautiful spot!

Keep 'em coming.

Yep, we did the 821 as well. Folks, it is on of the most beautiful roads you'll ever ride, but it is ENFORCED!! Big Time! You have bee warned.

We saw 4 or 5 troopers on that road alone which is about as many as we saw on every other road comined all 3 days we were gone.

If you get down to Yakima, you have to head west and go up the east side of Mt. St. Helens.

Warning #2. Th roads around Helens are US Forestry Service Roads, read Federal Roads. Get a ticket ad I understand it stays on your permanent record.

Thank you :)

I significantly changed days 6 & 7 of my trip to crater lake to return to the Yakima Canyon to get some early morning light shots. :) It was a pretty spectacular place in the early morning sun.

When I'm on a road trip, I get up early, my early, which is 6 - 7 am, not Steve-early, which is Oh-Dark-Hundred!

Some of these corners I swear are banked 30 degrees, if you took it over and over you’d be able to do it at 200, buy one error and you’d be a bug splat on the rocks

not as bad as it looks, you can buzz along at 100 - 120 easy.. the pavement's pretty good.

Heppner / Condon Area, these pictures don't do it justice, I think it was Mr. Wetdog the third that said it best, 400 miles, 1500 corners, one traffic light.... but I never found the traffic light... nor the gun toting pump jockey, but the gas station in Fossil had a cute kitten, and everything you needed as long as it was diesel or 87....

Back now, and I was on one of the most awesome roads that I have ever been on today..
I’d say currently my most favourite road... :evilgrin

Yeah I know what 'cha mean...

And there’s probably folks over there that would know exactly which one I mean…

Although I was surprised at the bikes, or lack of then, that I saw, or actually didn’t see.

I was in the area for two and a half days and saw one group of 4 on sporty type bikes and otherwise maybe 10 to 15 Harley types of all sorts.

Everybody was most friendly, locals waved at you as you went by them, all the biker types talk to each other, the businesses are very motorcycle friendly… the guy in the town of 400 that pumped the “good thing you only need 87 octane” gas, had a big grin and a “how’s your ride going!”, “have a real good one, ya hear”, type of greeting….

So I was up at the crack of dark Tues morning in Prineville wanting to head home, but not wanting to leave… what to do…. what to do.

Headed east at 7:00 along the crooked river again, what a fantastic road, Hwys 380 and 63 to 395, 2 hours and 220 kms later I was warming my hands around an egg McMuffin in John Day. One other vehicle on the road, a few suicidal deer and cattle, but otherwise just me and the cold.

My spider sense had failed me as only now did I discover what I think is the best road, among many many great roads in the area. Had I found this sooner in the trip I’d have done it a few times.

Starts at Hwy 26 just before swinging north on to hwy 19

http://www.logontothis.com/dond/eastor/tu1.jpg
http://www.logontothis.com/dond/eastor/tu2.jpg

Then working north along 19 and 207 up to Heppner again. Not many pictures as I was back to non stopping mode to get home.

http://www.logontothis.com/dond/eastor/tu5.jpg
http://www.logontothis.com/dond/eastor/tu6.jpg

Just fabulous, winding through canyons, then up through pine forests to the plateaus at Heppner.

I then scooted across the fields to hook up to I-82 and homeward..

http://www.logontothis.com/dond/eastor/tu7.jpg

Most definitely will be back in this area again, 4 days and 3350 k.....

Hahah yeah that road is awesome we were ripping on it. I was in the lead and was trying to stay under 30mph over the limit but some of those sections were hard. All I can say is thank god we didnt see any staties on that road.

Im glad you posted some pictures I wanted to show some friends but we never stopped to grab pics, now I can show them yours :)
