It started off last week. We were slow at work on Wednesday and I left early, right befor lunch. Plus I took Thursday and Friday off to give myself a extra long weekend to do some stuff around the house. So Thursday I cleaned up and relaxed all day, I gotta say it was a well needed break. Friday was suppose to be the last nice day that week so i decided I was going to do a road trip on the bike, just a small day trip. Here is where I start to get side tracked... I got on my bike around 9am, locked up the house, double checked all my gear (Funny how i still managed to forget my phone!!) And went to Cheveron to fill the tank. I'd decided the previous night I was going to do the "Duffy Lake road". So I left Chilliwack and rode east to Hope, the up the Canyon to Lillooet, Stopped for gas, then Rode over to Pemberton, down to Whistler, Then down the Sea to Sky to Vancouver. It was a great ride! I got into Vancouver around 4pm. Rush hour! YUCK! So I took the Willington exit and figured I'd hit a coffee shop up around Metro Town and relax for an hour or two while traffic died down. So now Willington is getting stupid busy so I take a side road(Bond st.) and figure i'll cut across to another road(Nelson) that runs into kingsway thats not so busy.
So here I am minding my own buisness riding in the left hand lane, doing the speed limit, and i enter an intersection... there is a car in the otherside of the intersection (Oncoming traffic) In the left hand turn lane. Well... I guess she didn't see me... because she decided to make a left hand turn, so she cut out in front of me an i hit her on the passanger side of her car. I don't remember much of the accident. I was knocked out for 10-15minutes. I remember waking up and not knowing what had happened. I thought I was dreaming. Seriously, Why would I be laying in the middle of the road? I was face down and my visor was covered in blood. There was peramedics, police and firefighters everywhere... well reality hit pretty fast. They loaded me up and took me away to RCH.
I spent the last week in the hospital, my left wrist/arm was shattered and i had to go through surgory to fix it. They put in a metal rod/plate and screwed it in about 12 places. My shoulders, neck, back are all bruised and really sore. I fractured my left hip, my left knee has some serious issues and my right ankle aches....I guess i should be thankfull I'm still alive. I flew about 20 feet and came down on mt left hand then my head, doctors said my helmet saved my life. (Arai RX-7) I was wearing full riding gear, Sidi boots, Joe rocket jacket, Held gloves, and a pair of jeans (They still look brand new!)
Everyones asked if this has scared me away from riding. If I didn't have this huge cat on my arm (Not to mention a new bike...) I'd go riding tomorrow. YES, It can be dangerous... But wear the right gear, pray to god every now and then, ride like everyone is out to kill you, and you should do all right.
