Anyone know the penalty for Dangerous Driving and Flight under the Criminal Code? Can they put you jail for that? I guess the two riders below will find out.
RCMP news release from today:On May 17th, 2008, North Okanagan Integrated Road Safety Unit and North Okanagan Traffic Services were working North of Vernon towards Falkland on Hwy 97, when one of the members observed an oncoming Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling in excess of the posted 90 km/hr speed limit. The police radar was activated and obtained a reading of 137 km/hr. The police officer activated the emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the motorcyclist but the driver accelerated past him and continued towards Vernon at a high rate of speed. The officer radioed to another marked vehicle a few kilometers away to stop the vehicle. The driver was charged with Dangerous Driving and Flight contrary to the Criminal Code. The motorcycle was towed due to no Insurance.
While the police officer was dealing with the first incident, another officer observed a speeding motorcycle and obtained a reading of 198 km/hr. When the emergency equipment was activated, the motorcycle accelerated even more and continued towards Vernon. The police officer called to another member who then tried to stop the fleeing motorcycle. The driver tried to elude the police officer by hiding amongst other motorists. The police officer stepped out to flag the motorcyclist to stop, which once again accelerated at a high rate and continued past the officer. The officer was able to get the plate number and after approximately 10 minutes the motorcycle and driver were located a short distance away. The driver was charged with Dangerous Driving and 2 counts of Flight contrary to the Criminal Cade. The Motorcycle was seized as Offence related property and will be held until the matter is dealt with in court.
