How to Upgrade My Exhaust???
I have a Suzuki GS500 with a stock exhaust that has a hole in the muffler.
So I want to upgrade my exhaust, but I didn't spend that much on the bike, so I can't bring myself to spend $350 for a slip on Yoshimura (the only brand that makes one for my bike).
So what I was thinking, is that maybe I could just find another used exhaust that has a slip on piece, or mid-pipe, and then I could just cut it to where it would fit nicely, and then cut my exhaust off. Then I'd just bring in my header and the new exhaust into an exhaust shop and get them to weld it up for me for about $50 or so.
Would this work? Are there any things that I should know, or look for?
Any advice would be great. Thanks.
yup, this could work, or depending on the midpipe you could just fab one yourself easily enough and connect it with tension rings. Going with a used one isn't a bad idea either. what year is your bike?
check out www.motorcycle-parts.ca here in BC or you can try www.ontariocyclesalvage.com
What actually IS it that yer expectring from a new Stovepipe?
HP?? well.. more than 1 or 2 is V unlikely.
Lots more noise? Hey! more noise makes it seem more powerfull.. and lets Officer Friendly follow your progress from 2 blocks away.. Not overly clever methinks..
This may sound silly, But an advanced rider course will be worth more to you than six Slip on monsrtosities... AND you can take yer New skills with you to your next bike too. Food fer thought.
You just looking to fix the hole? If you need a new can as your current one is rusted out check the buy sell under bikes wrecking or parts. Also give the chopshop in Richmond a call, they might be able to help you or know what else would help you.
Check ebay for used cans, maybe youll get lucky with a used yosh can.
Good idea to try not to put more money into your bike so it takes more legwork to get what you need at times.
good luck with it.
