I baught a used class 1 trailer hitch from the craigslist that is for my 91 Jetta. It mounts directly to the bolts that hold the rear bumper.
The seller gave me the bolts he had used. They were grade 8.8.
They are M10, 1.5pitch, 70mm length.
I wanted to get some new fasteners and wanted to replace the used bolts with 10.9 for strength. But I couldn't find any of that grade and size in Vancouver, Canada without buying a box of 25.
Pacific Fasteners had 8.8 grade which I got. But I just want to confirm, is the a grade 8.8 bolt ok for this type of application? The trailer hitch uses four of them, two at each corner. The hitch will be used to tow a utility trailer for moving motorbikes... with a max weight load say at most 800lbs (including trailer and a motorbike.)
I may also use the trailer for moving things like furniture around at some point as well.
Any problems with using these grade 8.8? Or should I keep looking?
I just want to make sure application is safe.
