In California speed traps are illegal. If you getting a ticket there and feel that it was a speed trap then while chatting with officer you can hint him on the info about the legality of speed trap and you going to contest the ticket. He might let you go. On highways in general they have to pace you to give a ticket or if they are parked then they should be visible from distance.
I don't know what's the law here but if people start giving this argument when contesting tickets then slowly here to this law will be passed.
Has anyone successfully used the above argument for contesting ticket?
OT: My last ticket (105mph) was on I-5 in Kings County California. Half a km further down where I got the ticket there was a huge bill board on road side that says something like "1000 people lost their driving license last year at this spot".
