This will be my first year riding in Vancouver. I normally just ride for the summers in Kelowna but I'm bringing my bike with me to UBC this year. I'd like to extend my riding season for a bit. I don't plan on doing any riding in hardcore rain but I would like to be able to get out for some decent weekend rides even if it's raining a bit. Also, I'd like to be able to rip up to the grocery store or something and not end up soaking wet.
What should I do, gear wise, to prepare for riding in the rain? How does a leather jacket hold up in the rain? I have a Dainese leather jacket right now. Would it be okay to take a quick, 10 minute ride in the rain with this jacket on or am I just going to ruin it?
Should I be looking into a dedicated gore-tex or waterproof jacket and pants for riding in light to medium rainfall?
Ideally, I would like to still be able to go on a nice Sunday ride in October, November, February and March even if it's lightly raining and not end up soaking wet and uncomfortable.
