Interior trip, route suggestions...?
This is a thread I originally started on the island riders forum, but I thought some of you mainlanders might also have some valuable input...
As the title says I have a trip planned for next week that starts with a ride from Victoria to Port Hardy and on to Prince George via the inside passage, Prince Rupert, and Terrace.
Prince George is where the options start:
1. East to Valemount (the most likely)
2. South to Quesnel (done this many times)
If we stick with option 1 we will probably stay on the yellow head (Hwy 5) all the way to Kamloops. However, it is tempting to jump into the rockies/ Alberta via Jasper and onto Golden. My only concern is that the roads might be packed with RV's through here.
Here is a link to what our route might look like:
So does anyone have suggestion for our current route (specific side tracks or places to avoid)??
Feel free to modify the google maps route and post up the new link...
Ideally we would like to try some different roads, especially south of Kamloops sticking with smaller less traveled highways with some fun twisties.
For suggestions please keep in mind :
1. Im doing this on an R6 (yes i know...) so gravel isn't really an option.
2. We have ~5 days once in Prince Rupert to get back home. As it stands the trip is already 2500km and it would be nice not to have to ride 12 hr days to get home in time.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any thoughtful suggestions.
The obvious suggestion if you are up this way is to head to Ginkolx, it is one hell of a road out there with some serious corners that compare to the most twisty roads out there.
Ya thanks for sure, I think I've heard of this being mentioned on the board before, probably worth the half day side trip...

The Ice Fields Hwy between Jasper and Banff is simply amazing. I would certainly go that route vs south on 5.
Are you going to be camping? A blast up the Cassiar is nice too, especially past Bell Irving and Gnat Pass. Heck, you could hit Meziaden Junction and hop over to Hyder, Alaska. You can get Hyderized and check out the Tongass (not tounge-ass) park which has a great board-walk for Grizzly bear viewing.
