Hey guys, picked up a second cbr 600, this time it is an f 89. Fixing it up to become my g/f's first bike. Needs a lil lovin, but seems to be pretty solid and only has 44,000 km on it.
Any ways, the only serious issue is a minor rattling which occurs primarily when the bike is warming up. Once warm, it is gone completely. When idling, it is barely noticable, seems to be most prominent around 2500-3000 rpms, and is especially noticable not when reving up (say to 5000), but rather when one suddenly releases the throttle. So in other words, it is not noticable when the throttle is held constant at higher rpms but only at certain lower RPMs or when decelarating quickly while the bike is cold.
It seems to be coming from the right hand side of the bike (thinking cam timing chain needs replacement, have to dig up service files at carter--reciepts point to them as the repair shop--to see if this was ever done). Additionally, clutching seems to be a lil rough, rarely settles nicely into gear (no grinding, just not smooth). This is causing me to think cam timing chain (similar problem on my 94 f2 until I replaced the tensioner and cam timing chain).
Does this sound like the culprit? Or am I looking at the possibilty of valve problems and the clutching is simply the need of a new cable? Would especially like to hear from those who have owned an f or f2 serise cbr 600.
