Hey guys, I'm a lurker ( )around here but finally have something to ask about
I'll cut a long story short, but last May I was out on my bike at ~2am going home with a couple buddies in a car behind. A cop pulled us over and alleged we were street racing (sport bike vs a family sedan Lexus) so I had my license suspended. They give me the instant 2 weeks, and they threw 4 months on top of it when that one ran out. I appealed it, and about 2.5 months through the suspension they finally decided we weren't street racing and gave us our licenses back. I've got an appeal in for this with a court date in 2 weeks.
I'm in Ontario for the summer on a school related work term but I'll be home for the trial. The officer who gave me the ticket (seemed young and new) has called my mom's house about 5 times, including at 11pm, looking for me to "discuss lowering the charges". He's left a contact number he can be reached at.
What I'm looking for out of this appeal is either some financial compensation, as it ended up costing me ~$900 (bike out of impound, licenses back, ticket etc) and/or to get this whole thing removed from my driving record. I tried to get a bike out here when I got here, but insurance rates seem to quadruple when you have a street racing charge and license suspension on your record and I couldn't afford it.
So for you people in the know, or those with more experience than a 21 year old (probably most!), should I call him? Can it hurt my court case at all? Is there any chance he can offer me anything worth my while?
