I know us riders always like to complain about the poor quality of our roads here in B.C., but as I rode out to White Rock today through the Massey Tunnel, I was utterly disgusted by what I saw.
I know they haven't finished the entire job yet, but from what I could tell, most of the sections, or I should say the entire right lane of the highway seemed "done." Instead of perhaps repaving at least the right hand lane, they decided rather to cover about 80% of it with tar strips. Actually, I shouldn't say strips. It looks like they blindfolded a monkey, stuck a mop in his hand and made him fill the "cracks" in the road. If there were honestly that many cracks in the road, they shouldn't be trying to fill them. JUST REPAVE IT! I honestly couldn't see one bit of pavement from all the tar they've poured over the road. And this is what we consider a major highway in Canada? Is this some kind of quick fix, or is it gonna stay like this for years to come?
I should mention that the small sections they did decide to repave are outlined in a nice thick strip of tar also. Isn't the point of repaving is to have a nice new surface. Instead, they lather the edges with more tar instead of grooving the edges and just rolling the new pavement into the old in a nice transition?
I know we all bash the road conditions, but do they actually consider the safety of all motorists on our roads, not just bikers. I wouldn't want to be out there after it rains, thats forsure.
