Made a trip up to Vernon this past long weekend to check out a pavement Midget and she turned out to be pretty sweet so my dad and I purchased the car and spares. She's a 2000 Ellis dirt chassis that's been upgraded to 2008 pavement specs. Has a SCREAM Focus engine conversion running on carberated Alcohol churning out 170hp @ 7000rpm. The car weighs 940lbs wet....she ripps!
I know I'm gonna hear from the arm chair race experts who associate all oval track racing to NASCAR and that turning left sucks...why not go road racing in a car or motorcycle?...Well...it's all about the THRILL vs $$$$ and this car is very affordable to race and maintain. I've done alot of motorsports over the years and as it turns out , circle track is a lot of fun and extremely challenging...especially now in an open wheel car. This car can nail 100mph on the straight of a 1/4 mile oval. At Agassis's 1/4 mile high banked oval the elite devision is Late Model Sportsman, plastic body 450hp v-8's that turn lap times in the low 14's....this sportsman midget will run in the 12's with 3 wide racing!
I'm not getting out of bikes, I'm just adding to my stable of carbon burning yahoo machines! I'll still rip it up on my KTM 450 Supermoto and maybe get some track duty in next year but racing oval track under the lights in the evening works into my schedule better. I'll be changing the colours to Competition Orange and my new number will be #46
