So I have a personal cheque (BMO/Brentwood home branch) that is written out to me, but I know the writer has a dodgey history of writing bounced cheques.
Do any of you (or specifically BMO workers) know the policy when it comes to asking about the status/validity of the cheque and its funds BEFORE attempting to deposit it and have it bounce back?
Like just asking at the counter if it would clear... I've heard differing answers about privacy laws, etc. etc... would it fly if I just came to that branch each day and inquire...
My suspicion is that the account might actually be closed but not sure if I can get that info from BMO.
