Hi, thanks to everyone for all your concern in the recent threads on BCSB. I just got home from the hospital last night.
I'm sure many are wondering what happened? Well, I was going westbound on W.2nd, making my way to the ride I set up when a Chrysler Intrepid, which had just turned left from coming eastbound on 2nd, appeared in front of me. There was impact, and the rest, as they say is history. This happened at West 2nd and Wylie, a block west of 2nd and Cambie. The intersection was shut for an hour as fire, ambulance, and police arrived.
My injuries are such that I would not wish them even on the jokers and trolls on here. My right hand is broken and worse, I have major injury to several major internal organs. I'm stabilized now with pins in my hand but that 1st week in hospital was harrowing.
It COULD HAVE BEEN immediately worse. I attribute that I didn't break my hips or spine or, um... die, because 1) I was wearing my gear, it saved my head and 2) I am a mature rider with good skill, advanced training and high speed deceleration on track days. The car moved into my lane so fast (I wasn't speeding, but was slowing down to merge into the other lane ahead) that there was no exit.
So yeah, it hurts when I laugh, I won't be dancing for a while, but I'll be ok in time.
Thanks to everyone for the calls, messages, and visits. Particularly to Richard (I was squirming in bed when I hear behind me "Oh my God. It IS you here") who tracked me down at Trauma Intensive Care, to Ted and Sarah at EMS who called to see how I was when people started wondering about me, and to all my friends for all the well wishes.
Right now I am trying to find more witnesses to the accident. If anyone would like to help, let me know.
