I seldom park my bike in the street, but I read many threads here about bikes being backed into and knocked over. I was just in Papeete, Tahiti, and noticed they have a very simple solution to this. At the end of many blocks, there is designated bike parking, which includes poles to separate the bikes (and prevent a domino effect) as well as a super heavy duty loop at the end, to stop cars from driving into or backing over, the last bike in the line.
It seems like a very low cost, simple solution. Perhaps the City of Vancouver and ICBC could adopt this idea and save us all a lot of money?
