On the first week of February I'm planning on flying in to San Francisco and renting a sport touring bike for a week long blast to visit friends in San Diego by way of the longest route I can manage - probably by way of Death Valley and Las Vegas.
I'm thinking the route will go a little something like this:
...about 2,000 miles or so over a solid 5 days or riding. Maybe shortened depending on how aggressive we feel. But enough to make you feel like holy crap, we did some riding.
The route I've selected keeps the ride at lower elevations with less chance of rough or cold weather. Southern California and Southern Nevada is quite mild in February during the day but the desert portions get quite cold at night.
Bikes can be rented from a variety of places in San Fran for about $800 per week.
Here are some sites:
I was planning on doing this ride on my own but I'd be more than welcome to have some company from experienced riders. Around late January - early February I start to go a little bonkers from staring at my bike in the garage. This, I think, would be a great mid winter two wheeled fix to hold me over until spring.
