The big race starts today. The ASO has actually done a pretty good job at reorganizing after last year's craziness in Africa and cancellation of the race. No Africa this year, though in some ways the high deserts of Argentina and Chile is actually more challenging and desolate then the course thru Africa.
I am still not clear on what the TV coverage situation is for here in Canada... so if anyone has info please post up, it'd be much appreciated. The ASO's website has live tracking, which is pretty cool http://www.dakar.com/2009/DAK/LIVE/us/100/index.html
As some of yous know that I work with Rally Management Services so I am kinda bias toward our rider, Jonah Street (#26), and our Team Rally PanAm Double Diamond (shameless plug... ) But there is also a local rider to cheer for... our friend, Don Hatton from Vancouver Island is riding his first major rally on one of our Rally MS custom built KTM 525 Rally Specials.
I know Eurosport and our own OneWheelDrive.net had covered the race previously. With the new locale, I am not too sure who's doing what... so if anyone find a website with interesting coverage of this year's race... please post up the link.
