The 80,000 people who use the Pattullo Bridge on a daily basis can breathe a sigh of relief.
After being closed for one week, the artery between Surrey and New Westminster will re-open to all traffic starting at 6am Monday morning.
It was feared the bridge might be out of commission for four to six weeks.
Translink's Judy Rudin says the weather, the Engineers, the companies involved and all of the workers helped to speed things along.
And there was one other very important factor: getting a span they could use to repair the bridge.
"The span was used in Canada Line construction at 25th and Cambie it was bridged over an excavation site while they were taking that part of the construction, so that is where it came from. It was our Buckland and Taylor people located it in Surespan's yard and here it is now, getting another life and another opportunity to serve the public."
The bridge was closed last Sunday after a fire was lit underneath it, that spread to creosote - soaked wood holding up a portion of the bridge on the Surrey side.
Traffic chaos ensued, with tens of thousands of additional drivers trying to use the Port Mann or Alex Fraser Bridges to cross the Fraser River.
Rudin says the new structure is made of concrete and steel and there's no danger of it going up in flames again.
