So, here's the situation. I bought my 92 GSXR 750 last year, because I always loved the look of that generation Gixxer. I paid too much for it, have had to do a bunch of work to it, but I love it anyway. Shes an awesome old machine, and getting closer to being possibly the perfect bike for me. Still some cosmetic work to do, and I'd also like to go through the suspension, or at least have it set up for me. That'll happen this spring, for sure.
Now, here's the thing. As I get older, I'm becoming more and more interesting in sport touring, and less and less interested in just "ripping around" for an afternoon. With that in mind, I start to think of getting a newer bike, maybe a VFR800, K1300S, or a Sprint ST. I've now thrown a leg over all of them, and find them all to be amazing machines, in their own right. All are comfy, and would suit me perfectly. That said, I don't find any of them, to be MORE comfy than my old Gixxer. Well, maybe a bit, but not $15k worth of extra comfy.
So here's my quandry. Do I spend a few grand on the Gixxer, give her the cosmetic resto that she needs, as well as a few well placed suspension mods, and fixes, add a taller windscreen, and maybe find/build a gel seat for her? I even considered converting her to EFI from a later 750 Gixxer. Or do I just give her the cosmetic resto that she needs anyway, and simply do the work required to keep her running, and await the day she becomes collector plate elligable?
If I DO buy a new(er) bike, it won't be until next winter, and I will not sell my Gixxer to get it.
Oh, and my other option, if I do a total rebuild/resto mod on the Gixxer, I'll likely pick up some kind of dual sport as well. KLR or what have you. Something to winter ride, and gravel bash in the summer.
Opinions? I'm really torn....
