As a few of you know, I've had an increasing interest in filmmaking for the past few years... Anyway while Saturnin was in a state of poetic delirum in another thread about boxing, I was reading an article Roger Deakin's site (world renouned cinematographer) in this article he mentions a number of important films and a few that were really formative on his development. Anyway 2 of the films were out of the early sixties by the filmmaker Peter Watkins. One was Culloden and the other was related to this post is The War Game.
I am posting this up not so much as a big pretentious wank on filmmaking but because the content is quite astounding particularly to those that were not in their formative years during The Cold War in the Sixties & early Seventies. Even if you are a geezer you should watch this. I've seen about 20 films on this topic that are quite horrific. This is in the top 2 in terms of cutting to the chase.
If you are interested I would watch these clips in the order presented. The War Game there are 2 segments. I would encourage you to watch both. It doesn't get much more real than this.
The War Game clip 1
The War Game clip 2
After you watch them realize that this was produced for the BBC and after it aired, it's broadcast was BANNED for 20 years by a democratic state.
