There aren't enough insurance threads. Really.
I bought a bike this past weekend and slapped on insurance.
I've got 20% off with ICBC with no claims. Had car license for 4-5 years, so private insurance is not happening for a while (need 10 years for most/all).
My ICBC basic + 3mil third party is $80/month. Adding comprehensive (as I did) brings that to $197. Ouch, to say the least.
Do most people have comprehensive? The only thing I'm really worried about is theft. Would a top of the line alarm (proximity sensor + alerting me and my baseball bat) be a better investment?
Bike is in an underground parking lot (yes, I know these are not as safe as they seem to be). It's parked behind my car, as was my CBR125 before it, so it's somewhat out of sight. You also have to get through two gates to get to it. There are a few other bikes around, but mine is by far the newest/most attractive for thieves. Haven't heard of any theft problems in this building in the year that I've lived here.
If you were me, would you keep comprehensive or get rid of it and slap on an alarm?
