I am going to take a private sale in to be inspected and the shop said they'll inspect 'whatever' I want.
Is there anything in particular I should ask for? Help me please....

Welcome back !! what did you get ???
I usally take it in for the once over but I'm sure they only check obvious things...
If you want a compression check or anything more ....prepare to pay the piper
Sort of like paying a building inspector to check a house before buying... They dont take too many things apart... but will assess things that could be costly repairs
Ask if they can perform a compression and leakdown test, and what the cost will be for that.
Aside from that, you can give it the once over yourself. Make sure you test drive the bike and that all the gears work, including no problems on the shift through neutral.
Ask the seller for any and all documents regarding the bike and it's maintenance. Do not accept the story of it being maintained very well, but no proof of it.
Most people that I know have a receipt for just about everything related to their bikes. This might include a hand written log of what has been done when, as well as receipts for purchases of oil and that sort of stuff.
The "no, I don't have any receipts" is a warning sign to me.. that and if it's been a short term owner, I always am more vigilant in looking for problems.
What make, model, year & mileage?

I would suggest taking the bike to an authorized dealer of that brand...they are typically a little more tuned in to any known history or quirks of their own models.
Swivel on it
Look up online what quirks your model+year bike has (eg: VFR's sometimes have dodgy regulator/rectifiers). If there's a common problem, give that area particular attention. Otherwise, just get em to spend an hour giving her the once over.

Adding to this you can ask if no receipts, because i don't keep all mine

Where did you get it serviced??? you can probably pull service records from their computer...... if he has no answer for you...run hard and run fast
BTW I wouldnt take it to the Service place he goes to for your check...youll roll it in and pay the dough and they will say it's pristine and take your cash
I also ask If i can test ride it to the Service place take it for a good ride to your chosen service place...pay for a permit if you have to ...25.00 bucks but money well spent
leave him a 10% deposit check if he wants
If he is not comfortable with that say OK thanks and move along to the next bike
