The whole business of buying vehicles can be fraught with pitfalls. Both parties are out for whatís best for them, inevitably. I personally hate buying and selling.
IMHO a biggie which would make life easier for all concerned would be to advertise "Out the door" sticker prices. If we donít have a choice about paying Delivery, PDI, Environmental etc. then be up front and just include them in the price. After all, technically that is what we are expected to pay. These BS fantasy numbers touted to get the unwary through the door are specifically designed to be misleading. However, with a bottom line figure (with or without taxes, but clearly stated), is a single starting point for negotiations. Whatís so difficult - it could be implemented - but I suspect the BS Baffle factor is a cynical sales tool for squeezing potential buyers once theyíre through the door.
The above applies more for straight sales. P/Ex brings in a whole new set of game rules.
Demand to know the bottom line price whenever shopping, donít waste time. Then direct comparisons are easy.
One important thing to bear in mind however is that the cheapest price is not necessarily the best deal. Be prepared to pay a few percent more if it means giving your trade to a caring business. Itís in all our long term interests to ensure that the better dealers can thrive. None of them are perfect - nor are we - but the attentive ones will value constructive criticism and suggestions and act on them.
And my limited personal experience with local dealers definitely gives the nod to Imperial. I hope these guys are around for a long time.
