a work-mate lives at 12th and hemlock. about 8pm weds, he heard a motorcycle soar up the revs real fast for a couple seconds, then there was a huge crash, then a long drawn-out sound of machine sliding along pavement. he looked out of his balcony, noted a bike down, phoned 911 (along with several other callers), then went down to check out the scene.
the northbound bike had pasted a parked car on the east side of hemlock, just south of the alley. the bike and rider both slid all the way into the intersection of 11th and hemlock. the rider was completely inert. the back corner of the car was badly smashed up - the rear wheel was buckled forward and in. there was a spray of debris across the road. the bike was some sort of yellow sportbike, minus a bunch of plastic, etc.
emergency vehicles arrived quickly and personnel attended to the rider, but there did not appear to be any response over a considerable time. my friend left after maybe half an hour. there were no sirens when the ambulance left some time after that. the police had the intersection closed for about 2 hours.
there's a distant, pretty uninformative photo posted at:
sounds from my friend that there were witnesses, but also seems like they didn't see the entire episode. speculation is the rider turned left from eastbound 12th onto northbound hemlock, cranked the throttle hard, wheelied or otherwise lost control, and contacted the parked car. but that's just speculation.
doesn't sound good, but here's hoping...
