It was predicted 3 years ago that one day I would post a thread like this; better late then never
When I first started riding, I noticed a lot of seasoned, and not so seasoned, riders would pose while riding, by placing the left hand on their hip.
It was very strange indeed to see a group of 15 riders all riding down the highway at 150kph in this manner.
Other bad habits that I managed to pick up was watching a few riders go around corners and frequently down the highway, with no hands. Of course, many of my riding group would coast to a red light with no hands; some even reaching for the sky to emphasize their handiless
So of course, I had to pick up a throttle meister just to keep up with the trend
Now, despite all the nay sayers and those who flamed me back in the old days, I shared this info on to our little newbie rider group at that time.
We found that it helps to teach us:
- to grip the tank with our knees and tank more firmly
- better body control as you are totally reliant on body positioning to steer your bike.
- no pressure on the wrist, since you cannot lean on the bars with one hand, or no hand.
- stronger back muscles
-smoother bike riding since, again, all body control.
In fact, this technique has been so successful, some of us managed to text msg while riding (not I)
So I know a lot of you ride sans hands..... will you be willing to admit it in a closed poll?
