The BMW R1200GS has been calling out to me for more than a year now, ever since I swapped bikes with a friend of mine when I went to California last year. The appeal is more the (1) long distance touring comfort, and (2) the freak factor, than it is the off-road capabilities. While I don't expect to be bouncing through single track in the woods on a 500lb machine, I do see dirt roads (or at least dirty roads) as possibilities.
A few of you I have ridden with have gone the VStrom route, a viable competitor for sure, but no "freaky bike" factor. The KTM's seat is too narrow for long distance comfort,
I would like to hear owners of any adventure-style bike views on their touring abilities. And by that I mean multi-day, multi thousand km rides. They don't offer much weather protection and the seem to me like they would get blown around much like a motard on the highway.
I would also like to hear what you don't like about your Adventure bike. What do you wish you had that it didn't (commuting, long distance or otherwize)?
