Hello fellow riders,
I was just talking to a friend of mine about travelling to Europe. Maybe backpacking around europe in one trip. Just buy a one way ticket to London, England. Start from there and take as much time as needed to really enjoy all the sites of europe.
All of a sudden, I thought to my self, Why not ride around Europe. It will be an experience of a life time! There are some of the best highway in the world there. I thought I could buy a bike there, maybe a sport touring or even better an adventure touring bike. So it could handle any terrian and carry all my gear too.
I not sure when I would be able to do this. But I think it would be a good idea to start researching roads and cities. Taking as much time needed to prepare properly. Maybe Finding out the best place to purchase a bike. Find out if non residencent can own bikes there. There are so many different country. It would be worth finding out where would be the cheapest place to purchase and insure.
I was think of looking in london as it would be a good base for me. I have some family there. I could go there and get setup really easily. As they have a nice home and I could stay there for free untill I get a bike and outfit it.
The way I see it. Is go with the flow and I want to do this one alone. If I want to ride to a place just get on the bike and go. But I would of course have to stick to a budget and some basic planing. Try and stay away from the cold as much as possible and buy heated gear. I got to think about how much money a trip like this would cost especially since I am thinking of taking six months to 1 year to do it. As maybe I may like some palces and want to stay there for some time. Work if I want to, or just enjoy the palce and party. Must go to sweden, for swedish blondes!! I know some of you guys have done trips to south america and AUS.
Anyways, What bikes would you guy recommend for a krazy trip like this. The bike has to have great relibility as I don't wanted keep on fixing it. Has to get decent miliage and be able to carry enough gear to for me live with. Plus I want bike that has some power for me to use in order to take advantanage of the fast roads there. It would be nice if it came with hard bags and what ever else touring bikes get out fitted with. I would take as much of my own gear from here. As i have a lot of stuff and there no point buying it twice. Also it would be nice to have a bike that has a good dealership and parts network just incase something goes wrong. I don't want to have be stuck anywhere longer then i want to. I don't know much about the european bikes or the bikes that are offered for sale in europe. I know some of you are from europe and great britain. OR some of you just have travelled alot.
Basically I would be caring almost the same amount of stuff a backpacker would carry except on a bike. I have seen those bmw adventure touring bike and have been really intrested in that. however, I don't know much about them. I think I could get some thing that is a Japanese bike that would be able to do the same for cheaper.
This is a dream trip for me. It sound expensive and it will be expensive. But if I plan it right and I can do it. All your thoughts and suggestion are valued.
