Hello everyone (scooter is a bad word here so i bleeped it out of title )
looking for some advice and suggestions
I have 1yr to decide on what direction i want to go. Do i want to stay in the scooter world
or move to a motorcycle. Seriously considering a "maxi-scooter" of the 300cc - 600cc range or just get a bike.
Several of my friends now have both scooters and bikes. so also bikes have some appeal
what i like about the scooter. 150cc, so plenty fast for the city. larger than most scooters..even larger than
some sportsbikes so handling is good. storage space and carry capacity. bike is my only transport so must be
able to carry a few bags of grocerys. scooter is easy to park/cops/meter maids just ignore me. Easy to ride/ twist and go so slow traffic is not so much a pain. I have been on hwys 99/91/1 and could keep up with traffic..its just not really fun light scooter gets kicked around by wind and am pretty much WOT at 110kph (scoot much happier at 80-100kph)
Would like to be able to cruise at 130ish and ride all day or atleast many hours if i feel like it. and not be totally worn out and have iron butt (numb) so a bigger bike is on my list..just not sure what as yet...
Now, questions about bikes. last time i rode a "real bike" was back in the '70s on a Honda CB350. In July 2010 i can take my final road test..i am thinking of taking a course and use a bike on test. This way i get the class 6 with no restrictions. If i used a scooter i would be restricted to scooters only.
What bike would be most "scooter-like" in terms of handling (nimble and quick) and storage capacity? I have looked at many bikes over the past few months and still trying to decide on what i want. Sports bikes are not for me. dont like the riding position. prefer a more relaxed up-right position. Really like the V-Strom 650 with the touring package. Seems to have a really high centre of gravity tho.
The cruisers i looked at seem nice but all seem to sit you so low to the ground. (feel like i am on one of those recombant bikes)
lots of new scoots out or coming out(kymco downtown 300cc - Honda Silverwing 600cc - Suzuki Burgman 400cc)
but for a cruiser i do like the looks of the Suzuki Boulevard C50 line.
i really have no idea which way to go at this point. Is why i am seeking advice from the experts here. Given that stop and go traffic is a pain in itself, is having to clutch thru all that really that much of a burden?
so bottom line is. i am looking for a bike that has a more upright seating position. with feet either straight down or forward.
Do not need gobs of power. just to be able to cruise the highway at 140ish and not get tossed all over by moderate winds.
Storage space or ability to add storage space is a must. low centre of gravity would be nice and somewhat flickable thru traffic or easy on twistys.
