Your ticket/court experience - educate us
Since many of us end up in getting ticketed, it would be beneficial to all if people posted their experiences - good or bad - and helped educate everyone. There were a group of motorcyclists there who'd been caught together. I chatted with them a bit and realized we could be helping each other.
There are a ton of decent websites for fighting tickets - it's a shame not to use them. Here are a couple:
Here is a link to the radar that the officer from the "road safety unit" was using:
http://www.stalkerradar.com/ (read the specifications on the radar units and the error rate - this error rate is also the officer's speed error rate when clocking you)
If you request a lot of information for your defence, the officer will be motivated to convict you. Ask for what's reasonable but don't overdo it unless you're sure you can get off.
If you challenge the ticket and show up:
Best outcome: officer doesn't show (quite unlikely these days)
Expected outcome: possible fine reduction
Worst outcome: (apparently) more charges, higher level fines or suspension though according to one thread on this board, that is supposed to contravene a supreme court ruling - I think it was copcatcher who mentioned it but he never posted a link
Definitely keep your speed under 50 over and don't do the slalom around cars with a buddy - you're asking for a street-racing ticket and there are 2 helicopters up there now increasing revenue.
You should keep your speed under 40 over to avoid excessive speeding.

For details on my case see:
The outcome wasn't bad. He reduced an excessive speeding to 2nd level speeding which is what I was after. He'd clocked me but reported his speed at 110km/h and said he estimated me at 115km/h in a 70 zone. He did not radar me.
I asked for a lot of information which pissed him off and probably contributed to him being a dick in the negotiation phase before the hearing. He still relented to reduce the fine.
He did not provide me with his notes despite being asked for them - I saw them in his hand - and they were very terse. I might have been able to get a dismissal.
My primary defence was going to be:
He used moving mode radar to report his own speed while "clocking" me (read trying to get his radar on me and missing). He put in his notes that his speed was 110km/h and since I was pulling away, clearly I was going more than 40 over. Since his radar equipment has an error rate of 3.2km/h and he estimated his own error at +/- 5Km/h, he couldn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that I was travelling at or over 110km/h (total error of 8.2km/h without even challenging his notes). He also had a lot of inconsistencies in his notes I could have questioned his credibility on - but I think that would have pissed everyone off.
I really didn't want to get tagged by ICBC's DRP program (see above link).
Wanderer of the Wastes
I *was* shitting horseshoes for several years.
I'm at least 6 for 6 now with past offenses and having them thrown out.
1 re-scheduling due to snow. 5 were no-shows. 1 showed and completely fumbled the case infront of the judge by 'not being prepared', all before I was even spoken to.
But now, I think I'm fucked!
...Has luck finally run out for DNAspark99?
Will these villains manage to prevail over him in this perilous situation?
Will those fiends use latex and lube when they finally violate him with the long arm of the law?
Can he escape THIS situation!?
