So I was coming home about 30 minutes ago, coming down Main street to turn left onto Dunsmir, go across the bridge to downtown. I was in the outside left turning lane and the light went yellow then red and 2 cars in front of me booted it and went through the yellow and the red. I braked as it was clearly red and I was like 5-6 feet from the intersection line and I was barely moving.
Next thing I know I was smashed forward a couple feet while still on the brakes. A Jetta behind rear ended me but luckily only 5-10km/h. Made me stall the bike but not drop it.
No damage, his bumper hit my tire and nothing else. Just more of a scare and although I was pissed that he wasn't paying attention, no one was hurt and no damage to the bike. The Jetta driver was really nice, felt really bad, totally confessed that it was a red, he was wrong, etc. These things happen, and thats why I am always trying to scan, stopped at lights leave it in first, watch mirrors, etc.
But the guy beside us is the punchline to the story, he leaned over and yelled that "It was the biker's f$%^ing fault, he should have gone, it was only red for like 1-2 seconds!"
haha I guess I missed the drivers training that explained running reds are ok. Farking vancouver cagers... If I ran the red one of the green light jumpers would have smoked me, or I get smoked from behind.
Keep your eyes open out there!
