I am in the middle of checking my valves on my '99 CBR F4. The bike has 75,000 on it and I'm not sure when they were last checked. I have noticed the engine seems more "ticky" then normal and I am getting some hesitation at low RPM. While I have the bike apart I am going to clean my carbs and change the spark plugs.
I measured out all of my valve clearances, some are dead on spec, some are .001 inch out - which is still considered in tolerance (manual says +/- .001). Maybe 3 valves are in between .001 and .002 out - its in between feeler gauges. Now, would this extreamly slight out of tolerance spec cause the problems I'm experiencing or is the carbs the most likely culprit at this point?
I don't want to have to go through the trouble of pulling the top end apart to get at my under bucket shims if its not necessary - I seem to be right on the cusp with a few valves, but it seems like this couldn't be causing my performance problems.
