WIth all of the chatter about the young couple who crashed on the S2S and will be released from the hospital this week ( a fooking miracle btw) this cut and paste from a forum I am on clearly lays out the traumatic injuries that result from an accident where the only gear the rider wore were a helmet and gloves.
I know the poster of this thread.
My younger brother was critically injured last night in a motorcycle accident in Austin, Texas. A woman ran a red light and my brother ran into her. He was wearing his helmet and gloves, but no other protective gear to speak of.
Both ankles are shattered and one foot nearly severed. His pelvic area is shattered as well, with massive trauma to the lower abdominal cavity. He was practically disemboweled. The docs went ahead and did a colostomy just to relieve the stress that would surely be placed on it . The urethra was completely severed and they have installed a catheter until permanent repairs can be accomplished. Also has a broken left shoulder. So far he has had three surgeries that HAD to be done and several more will take place as his condition allows.
The docs say he will probably never walk again.
Needless to say this was a very sobering post as we have staying with us a rider we know from Minnesota, who in broad daylight just outside of Prince George last Thursday hit a deer at a highway speeds (minus a little pre impact braking ).
His only injuries are cut up and bruised hands, it was warm and he had taken his gloves off, otherwise fully armoured and helmeted (Shoei Mulitec and tourmaster jacket and pants heavy riding boots.
Our guest is 68 and on a disability pension from the US Army. He and the bike went their separate ways at impact and all he has area few bruised ribs and a cut up wrist
Think about this before you go out in jeans and runners
As the old saying goes I would rather sweat than bleed.
