I'm pretty sure no one has done this before; more that 1600km in less than a day on a 84 GS1150, at least according to the Iron Butt Association.
In case your not familiar with the ride check this out...
I've been wanting to do this for quite some time now, really wanted to pull it off on the Turbo but it just wasn't ready in time. Started planning it a few months ago, did a couple smaller rides to make sure it was possible 1100km and 1350km with a couple friends. When the finnal day was picked only one of them could do it along with a more experience Long Distance Rider, so that made the three of us DavidM, Cuff and myself.
The Route: Vancouver, Prince George, Blue River, Kamloops, Vancouver.
The day started with meeting DavidM at 430hrs. Met up with Cuff a half hour and 30 km later.
Round about the 750km mark the EFE was starting to behave a bit funny, I knew something was wrong, was also very low on gas. Another 25 klicks with the last turn into the gas station I knew my front tire was flat. Probably only had a couple psi in it and to top it off no compressed air at the station. Filled the gas and took off down the road to a auto repair shop and filled the tire. Then off to a auto parts shop to get some spay foam tire sealant, no visible punctures so I was pretty sure it was a slow leak. To top it off the brand new rear chain had stretched a mile so adjusted that, serves me right for waiting for the last minute to buy a chain. Anyway got it all sorted and back on the road within an hour.
Bit of construction in the middle of nowhere, amazing how many road improvement projects are on the go. Cash Creek to Prince George will be 4 lanes most of the way in a couple years!!
Just before McBride
1000km mark just before the turn for home!
Just South of Blue River
From here on out I got no more pics was just concentrating on the ride and getting back safely. After Blue River I started to feel pretty bad; knees, ass, everything was sore. I was leading at the time and was just about to pull over for a rest when Dave blew by me. Hell couldn't have any of that so took off after him, fuck for a huge land yacht the FJR sure can move.
