So a buddy of mine wants to get into riding, so I decided to help him along. I should preface this by saying this is his second bike, but his first was my very own GSXR, which he lowsided, and became a little nervous of riding, and sold it to me.
Anyway, with a budget of $1500-2000, we set out. He already owns good gear, so a bike and proper riding course were all he needed. He begins his BCSC course tomorrow night.
Anyway, we found an 88 Honda Hurricane on CL for $1800 in Abby. Drove out to see it today, and rode it home tonight. Its got 36k km on it, a rebuilt title, but looks good, runs great, has new chain and sprockets, tires, and clutch. A deal was struck for $1500, and I rode it home to Surrey.
The good is, she ran strong, has some new parts, and looks decent. Plus it was cheeeeap!
The bad is, the head bearings are toast, and the rear wheel feels like its an inch cockeyed! Against better judgement, I rode it anyway.
My first bike, back in 92 was this same bike. I hadn't been on one since 94, when I sold mine. I'd completely forgotten how much fun they are. Slow, squishy, upright, but with good brakes, and a nice note from the Yosh slip on. I can't wait to ride it again, once the bearings are replaced.
Really makes you wonder why anyone needs a big modern sportbike, when this thing is so much fun.
Now I gotta get it to EMS this week for a little loving from Ted and Sarah. Ryan is gonna have a blast on this thing. Helluva great learner bike.
