My router (Linksys WRT54GL) is running custom firmware (Tomato) which tracks monthly/weekly/daily bandwidth. Today I clicked on the monthly tab and was stunned to see over 690GB use for this month! I haven't downloaded anything this month, so it was clearly not me.
I figured someone must be leeching off my wireless. I check the connected devices, no strangers. Just to be safe I change the encryption from WEP to WPA2 Personal. I check bandwidth, my "downloads" are still increasing by about 100MB every few minutes. Logs show roughly 60GB of downloads per a 24 hour period for the last couple weeks.
I figure maybe my media center is infected with some shit and it's doing some background downloads, so I cut off that PC's internet access. Bandwidth is still climbing.
At this point I'm stumped. No idea what's causing this massive bandwidth usage and am afraid that Telus will slap me with an enormous bill at the end of the month.
I have internet and cable from Telus. From what I understand, the cable also goes 'through the internet,' but the weird part is that the ethernet cable from the TV box runs straight into the wall jack, (does not go through the router) so I don't know how that could be affecting it...
Any suggestions? What could be causing this?
