I am in the process of adjusting my valves and cleaning carbs etc.. After taking everything apart I found this little orange rubber rectangle seal on the floor (whoops!).
Not sure where it goes, while I'm looking I thought I would post it up here and see if someone can point me in the right direction. '99 CBR F4 - Pics below...
I am finished with adjusting the valves, I replaced the cams and cam retainer, however I am having trouble making sure the cams are properly positioned before I fit the cam sprockets and cam chain.
The manual I am working with is very vague with the cam positioning, it says to have the lobe #1 (opposite side from the cam sprockets) facing diagonally up and out (both#1 cams lobes facing away from each other). It also says to make sure the printed cam labeling is facing up (IN, EX).
I have done this however it seems too much like eyeballing - I thought timing was really important and I would think there would be very clear markings on how the cams should sit. Like the cranks TDC mark (which I have the engine set to btw).
As I have it together now it seems like the TDC mark is just a hair or two off to get the cam sprockets EX and IN marks to line up exactly with the head. How important is it to make sure its exactly bang on? Or is it more important to ensure the two cam sprockets EX and IN lines are in line? (which they are now)
Is there a some other markings on the cam that I'm missing?
