After finishing with PRS(The best school in the world!!) and actually racking up some street time on the bike; I soon became frustrated by drivers; especially in my home town of Richmond.
Riding around I constantly call drivers assholes for doing stupid shit that could get me geeked.
Tonight on my drive into work for my graveyard shift, (I still have daylight restrictions); I realized that.... I'M THAT ASSHOLE I HATE WHEN RIDING!
I don't look around enough; I change lanes without signalling in the car, I drive way too aggressively for no reason, and I am all around a bad driver and a danger to motorcyclists.
I was born and raised in Richmond and have been driving for 13 years; and my habits show it; but what I realized is that before I started riding; I had no idea what riders go through and what they see.
And then I realized that neither does anyone else on the road... We are just invisible to drivers and it really isn't the drivers fault; they just don't have any concept of motorcycles.
It is a bit scary to realize that there is nothing taught to drivers about motorcycles. Nothing from ICBC; nothing from the government; and no media advertising; there is just no awareness of our existence.
It bothers me...
Needless to say, riding has drastically improved my driving and I now make a conscious effort to see riders.
Anyways; not really going anywhere with this; I just wanted to voice it.
